Fun Week of Apples with a Special Visit!

We had a very packed week!  There was tons to do as we taste tested apples, applesauce, and apple juice.  We did crafts centered around apples as well.  On Wednesday, we had a very special visit from the Lafayette Volunteer Fire Department as well as Red Cross.  The children had a wonderful time hearing about fire safety.  They even got to explore the fire truck!  Don't forget to talk to your kids about fire safety at home.  Make sure your children know what to do if a fire breaks out.  Makre sure you have a plan.  The sensory table was filled with bird seed this week.  The children were all about it!  We had great fun scooping and pouring.  Next week we will continue with apples and the harvest but please enjoy this week's "crop" of pictures and videos!

The nice lady from Red Cross reminds us to change the batteries in our smoke detectors and also demonstrated stop - drop - and - roll!

Firefighter Jay shows us what he looks like when he has on his fire fighting gear.  He tells the kids to never be afraid if they see someone dressed like he is and to go towards them not run away.

He even let us hear what his voice sounds like when he is wearing his helmet and his mask is turned on.

We even got to go inside the truck!

Here is our group photo with the super cool team from Lafayette Volunteer Fire Department.

Scooping in our bird seed outside!  What a beautiful day!

A great website that offers a safe and fun way to find other Internet sites on topics you may want to explore with your children is http://facthound.com/

A few informative and educational books on apples and Autumn are "Apple Orchard" by Catherine Anderson, "What Happens in Fall?" by Sara Latta, and "How Apple Trees Grow" by Joanne Mattern.

Pet Week!

This week was pet week!  Thank you to all of our friends who brought in pictures and books to share with the class.  We really enjoyed them.  Hopefully, we learned a little bit about the kinds of pets there are as well as other animals we do not or can't keep as pets.  The children really enjoyed our pet stories and our pet activities.  We discovered it was great fun to act like cats and dogs even if the barking and meowing sometimes got a little crazy!

Pretending to be animals at the farm!

Playing with our animal puppets.

Pretending to be pets in the mirror.

Dancing to our ABC Rock!

We are learning our alphabet by singing and dancing.
